Shakespeare’s tragedy, our time.

It’s official: We are beyond excited to formally announce that our original adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth will be making its US debut this fall at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center.

Having first staged this production at Les FIT 2014 in Quebec,  Canada, we will now be bringing it to Downtown Norfolk on November 6, 7, and 8 at 8pm. We’re thrilled to have the chance to show US audiences this production in a beautiful venue like the Roper. Stay tuned for ticket information.

Grow. Go. Do.

CORE manifesto: Grow. Go. Do. Grow. Return. Share.

We are a company that works together on our productions throughout the year but each of us also have outside projects on which we work.

Projects that present different challenges and exercise other elements of our individual talents. It is then upon our return to Core productions that we share what we’ve been both willingly and reluctantly taught

All failures and successes in life inform your being and your work. All interactions and perspectives keep you fresh, trained, sharp, and knowledgeable.

Experiencing life should transform you.

On a common trajectory, our objective as a company in these individual endeavors is to grow simultaneously and we check in with each other along the way to support personally and artistically.

“You’re different,” he said. You’ve changed.”
“Good,” was the only suitable response.

This week we celebrate growth.
Christopher has directed The Royal Family at LTVB which opens Tomorrow night! Congrats to you sir! Go see it everyone!

Laura is directing The Tempest for TCC’s Shakespeare in the Grove this year! Rehearsals started this week and it’s set to open June 25 and it’s sure to be awesome!

Eddie, Emel, Nancy, & Chris are heading up to Baltmore next weekend for a Lessac Workshop at Center Stage taught by the amazing Robin Aronson Carr! So very excited for this little reunion and being introduced to this technique!

Dive in people. The water’s fine.

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.”

Love and art to all.

Wrapping up one endeavor

Last night we had an AH-MAZING final workshop class with our Movements I: Intro to Viewpoints group, and it was sad to wrap it up. From circles and flow, cushion traps and cannibalism, family circus to cavemen, we were so impressed with you guys and had such an awesome time that we were still smiling this morning! Just remember that the conversation isn’t over and that you’ve given us so much in return!

And a huge thank you out to The Little Theatre of Norfolk board, Jason Martens, and Christopher Bernhardt for allowing us the opportunity to do what we love. We’ve had an invaluable experience with these folks so thank you deeply for that.

Love and Art Always - Emel & Eddie

The rain in Spain…

In 20 days The Poe Project leaves for Spain!
We’re touring to the Festival Internacional de Teatro, XX edition in Santiago de Compostela which starts on Feb 17th! Our amazing ensemble for this trip is Edwin Castillo,  Emel Ertugrul,  Nancy Dickerson, Samantha Johnson, and we’d like to give a huge Core welcome to guest artist Melissa Coleman-Reed, company member of Circle Circle dot dot Theater based out of San Diego. Edwin and Emel have known Melissa from their formative years in the ODU Theatre Department and all our training has come full circle so we’re getting the chance to rock it out once more.

You asked for it, here it is: a 5-week Intro to Viewpoints workshop

Calling all actors, comedians, improvisers, dancers, directors, filmmakers, photographers, writers, philosophers, designers, and artists of all kinds! Come join Core Theatre Ensemble for an enlightening movement workshop!

Workshop Description:
Over the course of five weeks (Sunday evenings in March), we will introduce the class to the basics of Viewpoints movement training. This workshop will concentrate on learning and exploring the individual aspects of movement as defined by this training, and each class will last approximately 2 ½ hours.

What are the Viewpoints? Viewpoints is a system of physical improvisations that are the basis on which one defines a physical performance.

What does that mean? Well, it means we’ll get you on your feet and we’ll be exploring the elemental properties of movement. Core will guide you through ideas of framing, focus, perspective, and the beginning elements of Viewpoints movement training — all things needed in the arts and in life! As a group, we will be creating with others and watching what others create.

Viewpoints training increases awareness of how an audience perceives characters and stories. This training gives its students the ability to use their bodies naturally as well as dynamically. It’s an invaluable tool for all ages and career stages, and it’s fun and eye-opening, so come join us!
